Governors
The role of our Governing Body is to:
-
Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
-
Hold the Headship Team to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.
-
Oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.
We do this by acting as a critical friend to the Headship Team to ensure that every Ridgeway child is nurtured for lifelong success.
Our Governing Body is made up of:
- 4 parent governors
- 1 head teacher governor
- 1 staff governor
- 1 LA-appointed governor
- 10 co-opted governors

Ridgeway Governors and the Register of Interest
Governors undertake regular relevant training, while at the same time bringing transferable skills from other walks of life to their role.
The full Governing Body meets at least once a term. We also have sub-groups of committees, working groups and task groups. Each has a defined area of operation outlined in our Governing Body Terms of Reference. Most governors are involved in two or more sub-groups.

Interested in becoming a governor?
School governors are unpaid volunteers. Nevertheless, being involved with Ridgeway is a very rewarding experience. There are parent governor elections whenever we have a vacancy, so if you would like to get involved, please put your name forward. All new governors attend a two-day induction course run by the LA.
Printed copies of the governing body meeting minutes can be made available on request via the school office.
